OUR WATERS
Pah Tempe Hot Springs sits at the mouth of Timpoweap Canyon near Hurricane and La Verkin, Utah, where geology and nature intersect. The springs emerge along the Hurricane Fault, a major geological boundary separating the Great Basin from the Colorado Plateau. This fault is central to why the hot springs exist here at all.
On the east side of the fault, the same Navajo Sandstone that forms the cliffs of Zion National Park is exposed at the surface. On the west side, beneath Pah Tempe, that sandstone lies deep underground. Large faults like this often act as natural groundwater barriers, allowing mineral-rich water to rise naturally to the surface.
The heat that warms Pah Tempe is linked to ancient tectonic forces that shaped the Great Basin and drove volcanic activity across southwestern Utah. Nearby basalt lava flows and cinder cones, estimated to be just 200,000 to 300,000 years old, point to a relatively recent volcanic past. That same underground heat source likely still warms groundwater as it rises, creating a rare convergence of heat, minerals, and geology.

Cultural and Historical Significance
For centuries, the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah revered Pah Tempe as a place of renewal and balance. The springs were traditionally used to aid recovery from pain, wounds, fatigue, and illness, with mineral-rich waters believed to draw sickness from the body and restore strength.

You may notice small white mineral “floaties” in some of our pools. Our hot springs water is tested regularly and is exceptionally rich in natural minerals, including calcium and sodium. In fact, Zion Canyon Hot Springs has the highest concentration of minerals of any hot springs in the United States.
Because our mineral content is so high, not all minerals fully dissolve. As the water temperature naturally shifts, some minerals may settle or gently float. These are natural mineral deposits, not contaminants, and are a sign of the unique potency of our springs.
Our pools are carefully maintained and monitored to meet strict health and safety standards. The presence of visible minerals is simply a result of how mineral-dense and natural our hot springs water is. Our spring water flows directly from the source at 1,000 gallons per minute, meaning the water you are soaking in is constantly refreshed with mineral-rich hot springs water.
The great news is that the more minerals you see, the greater the potential benefits, including improved skin, better sleep, muscle relaxation, and stress relief.
Natural, Mineral Hot Springs Water From The La Verkin Hot Springs
Hidden within the breathtaking Virgin River gorge, between Hurricane and La Verkin, Utah, lies Sulphur Springs—a natural mineral hot springs marvel. Beneath the rocky ledges of this rugged landscape, mineral-rich waters bubble the surface. These naturally heated waters are the heart of our hot spring pools, where we carefully draw and treat the mineral hot springs waters from Sulphur Springs to create a luxurious soaking experience. This process allows guests to enjoy the restorative properties of these incredible mineral waters in a safe and serene environment.

About Our Mineral Hot Springs Water
Our mineral hot springs waters are sourced from the natural spring located on the Virgin River on the boundary between Hurricane and La Verkin (also known as Dixie Hot Springs or Pah Tempe). These hot springs produces seven million gallons of water a day. These waters are heavily salinated, packed with minerals and reach up to 107-degrees Fahrenheit.
Our advanced water pumps brings the water from the Virgin River natural hot springs up to our pools and changeover completely every two hours. The detailed filtration process removes debris and particles. We treat the water to neutralize any sulfuric odors and to provide a clean soak experience.
The mineral composition of our hot spring water provides a variety of benefits. Zion Canyon Hot Springs' detailed water analysis found more than 14 different minerals including iron, sulfate, chloride, sodium, and calcium. Our mineral hot springs pools are wonderful temperatures ranging from 88 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
We take our role in environmental sustainability very seriously. By utilizing advanced water management systems and working closely with the Washington County Water Conservancy District, we minimize water extraction to sustainable levels, allowing the spring to naturally replenish. The hot spring’s mineral-rich water is treated using eco-friendly filtration methods. After use, the treated waters are returned downstream in the Virgin River, with more sustainable water conditions than when it was first extracted.
